NOTE: Please be sure that you have followed the pre-install guide and that your device is plugged into an active Ethernet connection before attempting this setup guide.
There are 3 steps to set up a Caddis device for data collection.
- Step 1: Connect to the Caddis device for the intial configuration
- Step 2: Configure Ethernet settings
- Step 2a: Via DHCP
- Step 2b: Via Static IP address
- Step 3: Verify network connectivity
Step 1: Connect to Caddis for Initial Configuration
An Ethernet connection will require that an Ethernet cable be run to the equipment the Caddis device will be attached to. During setup, the Caddis device should be attached to the same network segment in which it will operate in the production environment.
Your Caddis device should come from the factory in Access Point mode. Access Point mode allows you to connect your laptop, tablet or phone to the device in order to configure it.
If you connect a 24 volt DC power source to the Caddis device, within 2 minutes it should show up in the list of available wireless connections on your computer. The SSID of the device’s access point will not be exactly what is shown below but will follow the pattern caddis-XXXXXXXX, where the X characters are replaced by the first part of the device’s unique ID.

Troubleshooting Step: If the light on the device is green and the access point is not visible on your computer, use a non-conductive object to press the bottom recessed button on the device for 5 seconds and then release. The LED should turn red within 10 seconds and the access point should appear on in the list of available wireless networks within 2 minutes.
Connect to the device’s access point. The default wifi password is lcm2mcaddis.
Microsoft Windows may alert you that you have lost your connection to the Internet after connecting to the device. This is normal and temporary.
Once the device is configured you will be able to switch back to your local network.
Step 2: Configure Ethernet Settings
Enter the following address in your web browser’s address bar: http://192.168.4.1

Caddis Device Configuration Address in Google Chrome Address Bar
After pressing the Enter key, you should be presented with the Caddis device configuration page and the NETWORK SETUP tab should be selected.

Device Configuration Network Setup Tab
If there is an Ethernet module installed on your Caddis device, there should be an Ethernet section of the configuration page. Make sure that the ENABLED button is clicked in the Ethernet section or your Caddis device will not allow the Ethernet connection to work. There are two documentation subsections that follow that you can use, depending on whether your Caddis device will gets its IP address from the local network (DHCP) or via a static IP setting.
Step 2a: DHCP IP Address Configuration
The Ethernet section has buttons to switch between DHCP and STATIC IP address configuration, as well buttons to enable and disable the Ethernet module. With an Ethernet cable pluged into your Caddis device, selecting the DHCP button (which is the default) will cause the device to acquire its IP address automatically from the host network. The host network must be configured properly to hand out IP addressses to devices. If DHCP is the correct setting for your Caddis device, click the SAVE AND RUN button to cause the device to save these settings and try to connect to the Caddis cloud servers. You can then move to Step 3.
Step 2b: Static IP Address Configuration
If the host network requires a static IP address to be assigned to your Caddis device, clicking the STATIC button will display the static IP address controls.

Ethernet Static IP Address Settings
The IP Address, Netmask and Gateway settings will need to be obtained by contacting your IT service provider or department. Once these settings have been filled in, click the SAVE AND RUN button to cause the device to save these settings and try to connect to the Caddis cloud servers. You can then move to Step 3.
Step 3: Verifying Network Connectivity
Once the device is in Run mode the Caddis device will shut down its wireless access point, but the configuration page can still be accessed from the main site at https://app.lcm2m.com. First ensure that the LED on the Caddis device is solid green, indicating that it has successfully obtained a network connection and can contact to the Caddis cloud servers. If the LED flashes red and then green, then goes back to solid red, it means that the device could not obtain a network connection or cannot reach the Caddis cloud servers. The two most likely causes are a misconfiguration of the network settings, or that a firewall is blocking access to the Caddis cloud servers. The pre-install guide has information on ensuring that the Caddis device can reach the cloud servers.
Once the LED on the Caddis device is solid green, the device configuration can be verified by finding the device’s entry in the Devices table and clicking on the blue wrench icon at the right hand end of the entry. This will load the same device configuration page that is accessed directly on the Caddis device. Clicking on the NETWORK STATUS tab will allow confirmation that the device was able to make all of the connections that are needed for proper operation.

Device Configuration Network Status Tab
The two sections of interest are at the bottom of this tab and are Ethernet and Cloud. For Ethernet, Status should show CONNECTED and IP Address should have a valid IP address for the network the Caddis device is attached to. Cloud shows whether the device is connected to the cloud servers on the Internet. LCM2M – IoT Connection status should say CONNECTED and SNTP Status should also show CONNECTED. If any of these indicators show DISCONNECTED then the Caddis device does not have a proper Internet connection. Please review the pre-install guide, consult with your local IT service provider, and then contact LCM2M support if the problem persists.
Once the Caddis device has a properly configured network connection, the device can be added to a piece of equipment as specified in the user guide.
